Enjoying Wagashi

A guest, Lillian, enjoys a wagashi at Matcha Box

 

Marybeth Welch, a tea master at the Urasenke School on the Upper East Side, makes home made wagashi for us. She starts with the beans, boils some water and continues from there.  These are masterfully hand-crafted little treasures.  Each week we find another version delivered to our pastry shelf. The ones at left are blue birds with small eyes, beaks and tails.
