Rocco DiSpirito’s Green Tea Watermelon Super Punch – A Hit with Matcha Source Fans

July 19, 2011

The phones have been ringing here – thanks to Rocco’s Watermelon Super Punch with matcha green tea powder.  Our fans are chiming in too with these recent posts: “Monica wrote: “I tried it and I loved it! ;)”

Sara wrote: “YES! Although I was disappointed he used thawed fruit and then ice. I prefer to freeze my fruit and have them act as the ice. Since it was about lower calorie swaps I was also shocked that he used agave and not stevia (although I don’t like my smoothies sweetened). Watermelon and pineapple is a really great combo- especially w/ a bit of basil and/or mint added. I personally don’t like yogurt in my smoothies either. Just frozen fruit, maybe (but not always) V8 VFusion (cranberry blackberry and peach mango are my favorite), frozen fruit, and matcha.”

Here’s the recipe from Good Morning America, July 18th.

Difficulty: Easy
Cook Time: 30-60 min

I crave smoothies. I have 2 to 3 a day. Did I mention I’m forming a support group? This smoothie is one of my favorites. It’s souped up with high antioxidant matcha (green tea powder). This one is made with yogurt, too — a wonderful probiotic food that has been shown in studies to help with fat burning. Oh, and if you expect you’ve been unintentionally overdosing on smoothies, get help.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups ice
  • 4 cups cubed seedless watermelon
  • 1 cup nonfat Greek yogurt, such as 0% Fage Total
  • 1/4 fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup agave nectar
  • 1 cup chopped fresh pineapple
  • 2 teaspoons unsweetened matcha green tea powder

Cooking Directions

Toss all ingredients into the blender and blend for five minutes to increase volume.

Serve in glasses with a straw.
